A new project, for a new weekend…

June 15, 2008 at 2:09 pm (sewing)

I am still trying out for the aunty of the year award. So there is a great and urgent need for a new project. If so my sister is not really participating…

So what is it everybody needs? A striped sea monster. So I draw the shape of the Loch Ness Monster, and copied it with a 0,5 cm sewing allowance on an old newspaper.

Please no judgement about my drawing skills. Then choose a soft fabric.

And copy the design to the fabric.

For a 3D effect you need to make 2 pieces of the total shape, 2 pieces of the tummy and foot area and if you want to add wings or other stuff draw and cut them too.

Pin the big body parts together and sew them together. Leave an opening for the tummy and the foot area.

Pin the foot-tummy part securely in and sew.

After fitting the pieces in close the tummy but leave a gab for turning and later filling.

Fill the loch ness monster (I used a granulate material, which is washable and safe for small children.)

And close up the tummy.

I hope you could follow my explanations.

A mystery solved…

June 10, 2008 at 7:06 am (Daily News)

A few days ago I left my house and somebody hat a german flag hanging out of their window. Which is not a normal sight. In american movies there are flags everywhere but it is rather seldom in germany. It gives most people the creeps because of the war. The Nazzis loved flags. (The Neonazis still do.)

So I was a bit surprised but thought it was just a moron. But when I came back home there were two more. So it was contagious. Our window hadn´t caught it jet. Lucky me.

Here I should mention that I don´t watch TV, I don´t own one and I never ever read the sports section…

So I was a bit taken by surprise when the next day my street looked like that:

How many flags are you counting?

Then there were flags everywhere. If you buy a pizza at a delivery service you get a flag…

Buy the family size washing powder get a flag. Buy  brand chrisps get a make-up pen which draws the german flag a cross your face….

It was a bit like the world soccer championship… But there couldn´t be one so soon again… So what could it be?

Imagine a drum roll. The EM! The eruopean soccer championship.

The EM is an important event but since the last soccer world championship the merchandise got really really crazy. And it looks like it that they are making a fortune this EM now too.

The most popular thing this time are flags for your car.

My favourite car was one with german, polish and a pirate flag. Sadly it passed by before I could take a picture.

So a happy EM time to everybody.

Little sisters poncho

June 2, 2008 at 11:12 am (Knit)

I found this amazing page vintage knitting a while ago.  And I had to make at least one of them (maybe I have to make another one). And I just had received a mountain of yarn from my boyfriends mother. So many wonderfull yarns.

So I took a pretty cotton yarn and got started.

The Poncho with Hood from 1962. The pattern is very easy and is the best TV project, because there is no real need for counting or checking the pattern…

The Pattern is a seed stich. With three garter stiches at every beginning and end.

I choose 5 lila – golden buttons which actually goes well with the light lila touch in the yarn (The colour is a bit different then in the picture). And here the finished poncho.
